Principal's Message

Dear La Quinta High School Families,

As the principal of La Quinta High School, it is my pleasure to welcome you to the 2026–2027 academic year. Now entering my fifth year in this role, I am more excited than ever about the direction our school is heading and the incredible opportunities that await our students, staff, and families.

Over the past four years, we have made extraordinary progress together. As the largest comprehensive high school in the Desert Sands Unified School District, our unwavering commitment remains focused on providing a supportive, inclusive, and high-quality learning environment for every Blackhawk.

This year, we are especially proud to celebrate that La Quinta High School continues to be recognized at the highest levels for academic excellence and school culture. Our campus proudly stands as a:

  • California Distinguished High School
  • AVID National Demonstration School
  • IB World School
  • PBIS Gold Status Recipient (for our commitment to a positive, inclusive campus culture)

These milestones, alongside our ongoing maximum six-year WASC accreditation, are a testament to the hard work and dedication of our students, educators, support staff, and families. Together, we are building a school that inspires every student to reach their full potential.

Campus Modernization Project

Looking ahead, you will notice some exciting changes taking place around campus as we officially kick off our campus modernization project. Over the next three years, our facilities will be updated to better serve our Blackhawks for generations to come. I want to personally assure you that over the next 3 years, we will do everything in our power to ensure the modernization project will have little to no impact on student learning. Our focus on an inviting and positive classroom experience, as well as student safety will remain our absolute top priorities.

Staying Connected

To our new families, welcome to the La Quinta community! To our returning families, thank you for your continued support, partnership, and trust. Communication is vital to our success, so please stay connected by checking our school website, and following us on social media, for important updates.

Let us move forward into this new school year with optimism, unity, and Blackhawk pride. Thank you for being an essential part of The Blackhawk Way. Let’s make the 2026–2027 school year our best yet.

Go Blackhawks,
Gregg O’Mara
